This collection is made up of 91 pieces of sheets of music from various composers in the early 20th century. The primary genre of the collection is Ragtime music. Many of the covers have been autographed by their composers. This collection houses highly visual and artistic material with various colors and designs depicted.

This collection houses copyright statements for her sheet music compositions and books she authored. It also contains loose chorus sheet music from her operetta, Watouska, or the White Lily with notes for specifying the vocal parts. It also contains other loose sheet music that she composed. It contains the hard-bound copies of her operetta, cloth-bound with gold fore-edges as well as her original manuscript composer's score.

Scope and Contents The collection is comprised mostly of correspondence with newspaper clippings, typescripts of Hale’s writings, and a few photographs. The papers are arranged alphabetically by topic and range in date from 1896 to 1927. The correspondence has several gaps between 1896 and 1926, with the largest between 1905 and 1913. There are numerous genres in this collection including marches, polkas, waltzes, and ragtime. There are a number of pieces by local composers and/or publishers. Many pieces feature photographs or illustrations of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. This collection houses highly visual and artistic material with various colors and designs depicted.

This collection contains primarily music books that fall under the genre of opera. These books were collected by William N. Degenhart as he performed around the St. Louis area. Many of the pieces collected were composed by world famous artists like William Shakespeare, Richard Wagner, and Johann Strauss.
