On January 26, 1971, Elizabeth goes to the Missouri Historical Society to copy articles about her grandfathers. On January 31, Apollo 14 takes off. Elizabeth watches the moon walk on February 5. On February 24, she takes a boat trip/tour with the Kirklands in Ft. Lauderdale to St.Thomas and Barbados. She continues on to the Panama Canal and Jamaica. She returns to Naples, Florida, in mid March and to St. Louis on March 27. After a short period at home, Elizabeth and Irene leave for New Orleans on April 14 where they stay at the Royal Orleans Hotel. They tour the French Quarter and visit Baton Rouge and St. Francisville. On April 19, they tour Vicksburg, which Elizabeth thinks is “rather shabby,” and visit the battlefield. They visit Greenville and dine with Captain Fred Way. Elizabeth returns to St. Louis on April 22. She continues to work at the Shaw House regularly in the spring. “Mister” still pays visits. The first of June began with a visit to Dr. Weinberg where a “depressing interview” ensues. Elizabeth repeats the visit on June 3 then takes a bus to Poughkeepsie for a campus tour and to see old pals until June 8. She has two more teeth pulled on June 25.
