John is having troubles with independence. He decides he needs to go to Cleveland where Eric will fetch him. Elizabeth decides to work on genealogy as John gets sicker. She takes a plane to see John in the hospital in Cleveland in early February 1969, and John dies on February 6. Elizabeth goes to Jamaica on February 14. She enjoys the warm weather, markets, and swimming. She plays bridge while there. She returns to the states on March 8. “Mister” still comes to work in her garden. Elizabeth leaves for Greece on June 12 and visits various attractions such as Dodona (shrine for Zeus) and temple of Hera. She returns home June 29. She visits family in Minnesota in July. She starts planning trips to Europe in mid-November for the next year. Bun gets her first job with a construction company and fills in for a week starting late November., 1969

The collection contains 14 diaries written by Elizabeth Nulsen Young. The diaries cover the years 1917 to 1976 and briefly list her day-to-day activities. Each diary includes five years, with the exception of one travel diary of a trip to Europe in 1956 and the last diary (1976), which only contains one calendar year.
