The Norman E. Horat Letters consist of letters to and from family members and friends of Norman and Jackie Horat and their mothers, Zoe McGee Horat Gill and Gertrude Marshall Black. Most of the letters were sent during World War II and the Korea War when Norman was in the navy.

The papers contain primarily correspondence between Richard G. Mater and his fiancée Katherine Nitz when he served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.
