Much religious indifference here – Des Peres folks engaged in building church; formation of Temperance Society at Manchester. The village, for its wickedness, has acquired the name Sodom. The Synod of Missouri have constituted a Com. of Missions (Brothers [Wm. S.] Potts, Hatfield, and myself with 2 elders]. We have voted to employ Brother [A.P.] Brown, a good but somewhat odd man.
