Letter signed Geo. Knox, Jr., Wheeling, to Lemon Parker, Franklin, Mo. I arrived here after a tedious passage and received your letter from St. Louis. The papers relating to C.M. Strader’s business were all returned from Louisville to St. Louis directed to Felton or yourself. Discussion of Strader’s settlement of affairs. I left the documents with L. Clarke to be forwarded by first boat. I am compelled to remain here to have my deposition taken in the suit brought here for the whisky claim. There are no prospects of being able to make the large importation of goods spoken of for the Spanish trade and I fear there will be some difficulty in procuring a sufficiently large stock for the Rocheport concern. I have been informed here that at least one half [of] the western merchants are unable at present to make purchases to the east. They have confidence in no one traveling this far., 1832 Dec 12
