The loss of our friend [John] Hardeman is to be deplored on many accounts…that full justice may be withheld from his family is to be feared. I have been legally advised that if some friend would proceed immediately to New Orleans and administer on the estate there, it would be a saving to his family of at least $1,000. I enclose to you a letter to a friend who will give you aid and be your security in taking out letters of administrations.
