Henry Lyon Naturalization Document
Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of the naturalization document issued to Henry Lyon by the Clerk of the St. Louis Circuit Court on 4 April 1857, Stephen Rice. Lyon applied for citizenship and proved to the court that he had been in the U.S. for five years, had lived in the state of Missouri for one year, renounced all foreign allegiances, and declared that he would support the Constitution of the United States.

Biographical Sketch
Henry Lyon was born in Prussia in 1826. By 1852 he had emigrated to the U.S., and by 1857 he had settled in Missouri. He married Caroline Marks and they had nine children. Lyon was a dry goods merchant and was also the president of the United Hebrew Congregation of St. Louis in 1875. He died in 1888 and is buried at the United Hebrew Cemetery.
