Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The papers relate to the medical career of Dr. XaCadene Hill Fox in St. Louis and include mostly cash books, medical licenses, and some correspondence. Items are arranged alphabetically by type of document/topic and date from 1945 to 1983; there is a large date gap between 1969 and 1980. Please note that within the collection, XaCadene Hill Fox is addressed as both Dr. Hill and Dr. Fox. Twenty-five volumes of cash books relating to Dr. Fox’ private practice comprise the largest portion of the collection. The cash books date from 1949 to 1968 and from 1981 to 1983 including mostly cash books, medical licenses, and some correspondence. Each book lists the patients’ first and last names, the date of their visit, and the dollar amount collected. The remainder of the collection includes some correspondence with the three hospitals with which Dr. Hill worked. For example, in 1968 Dr. Hill was invited to participate in the surgical conferences at Homer G. Phillips Hospital and in 1962 she was on the medical records committee at Peoples Hospital. There are three of Dr. Hill’s medical licenses issued by the State of Missouri in the 1940s and two special stamps for controlled substances issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue Service under the Harrison Narcotics Tax Act in 1949 and 1950.
