March on Washington – Brochure (St. Louis)/Frontiers/Program Guide, 1993
Scope and Contents
The collection includes correspondence received by Kalk and Lammert, newspaper clippings, and publications related to the 1993 March on Washington. The collection is arranged alphabetically by type of document and dates from April to June 1993. There are several notes and letters dating from April 29th to June 14th in response to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article of May 9, 1993. Friends and strangers wrote to support Kalk and Lammert, congratulating them on their courage. Larry Fiquette, the paper's Reader's Advocate, replied to a letter from Kalk on May 26th. There are three examples of negative feedback. Two are anonymous notes sent with the photo from the May 9th article (c.12 May 1993) and the third is one profane note containing homophobic slurs (12 May 1993). The remainder of the collection includes newspaper clippings, copied for preservation, from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch dating from April 26th to May 20th. Items from the March on Washington include a brochure from the St. Louis Committee, a program book for the march’s activities, and the Frontiers special guide to the march.
