Police Notebook, 1885-1887
Scope and Contents
Officer James Condon’s police notebook dates from April 1885 to April 1887. The notebook, which has been disbound, is a daily record of Condon’s activities as a policeman. The entries record various arrests with names of offenders, attendance at court for specific cases, various nuisances (e.g. water closets, sewers), and reports including dead animals and needed street repairs. Condon first served in the 4th police district and on 23 June 1885, he transferred to the 3rd district. Condon even notes his days off.
