The collection consists of correspondence and invoices relating to the Hume home at 11 Carrswold, newspaper clippings, and documents relating to Fred Hume, Sr.’s career. Two folders comprise the collection: one for items relating to Hume’s career and one relating to the Hume residence. Items within each folder are arranged chronologically and date from 1927 to 1988 with large date gaps: 1947-1969 and 1971-1987.
In 1927, Fred Hume, Sr. endorsed the Oil-o-Matic from the Williams Heating Company of Bloomington, Illinois. The full-page ad used several photos including: Hume’s portrait, his residence before he moved to 11 Carrswold, and the residences of two other International Show Company executives. Other items relating to Hume’s career are the program celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Progress Club, his state engineer certificate, and newspaper clippings. The final item is Hume’s obituary from the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. There are invoices and correspondence from the Lammert Furniture Company and from the Luck-Orwig Co. for interior design and installation services rendered for the Hume’s new residence from February to October 1929. There are also advertisements that used images 11 Carrswold in advertisements by John C. Murphy Co. (plumbing) and by Brockmeyer-Bohle Builders.
