Letter signed J.G. Shultz, Maysville, to John Dougherty. It is six months since I have had the pleasure of seeing you and I am anxious to hear news of the thriving city of Iatan. I occasionally get letters from Weston, but they seldom give me any news. It must be jealousy that causes the silence. I would like to sell my portion of the property and Samuels of the Land Office might be interested. I am doing very well here in the iron business, but we are all worried that the tariff of ‘42 will be revoked and take away the present duty on iron. Individuals mentioned: Miss Julia, Mrs. Dougherty, McMahan family, and Mrs. McAdam[?]. Places mentioned: Platte., 1844 Dec 13
