Letter signed J.G. Russell, Springfield, Mo., to Charles S. Russell, St. Louis. I enclose Mr. Booker’s note which was payable July 1. Of course, I have two more now due which he is welcome to anytime he has the money ready. I judge from the transcript of portion of Mother’s will that I have the right to sell the church lot provided I sell it for church or charitable purposes and carry it in trust for such uses alone. As you Episcopalians do not want it, I will see if the Methodist brethren do. They also put some little money in the building. As you have not advised me about needing more money for the coal mine, I suppose you have plenty. Can’t you rent or sell Washington Avenue for anything? I would like to know what some real estate man thinks of the value of it now. I should think you would find it hard to keep it insured and to keep the loan on it now that it is not rented. Is business picking up in St. Louis? The papers are not to be relied on. Business still very dull here. Family news., 1885 Sept 3
