Photocopy of letter signed Wm. Singer, St. Louis, to Col. B.F. Larned, Acting Paymaster Genl., Washington City. The fact that my returns have not been made to the Chief of the Dept. regularly as is required, and as they have heretofore been made by me, is due to the absence of my clerk whom I left in Santa Fe. As soon as he returns, which will be shortly, I will hasten to make up and forward my returns. (acc. no. 70-0017), 1848 Sept 19
