Photocopy of letter signed Benja. Howard, Headquarters, St. Louis, to [?]. Ordering a part of the regular troops at your recruiting rendezvous to this quarter. You will detach Lieut. Collie and 20 men to this place as soon as possible with instructions to report himself and command to me as speedily as possible. Nothing but the present state of things would induce me to issue this order, but I trust I have it in my power to return those troops to their company before orders may arrive for their removal. (acc. no. 70-0017), 1814 May 25
