Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection consists of four land deeds. The two earliest deeds date 1831 and 1837 and described land acquired by Nicholas Long. The third is a Sheriff’s Deed in which Elbridge Payne purchased land from a Long family dispute in May 1860. The final item is a deed of trust concerning loans granted to Mary E. Payne by John P. Breckenridge and James Dawson. Mary conveys land to Breckenridge for payment of debt and promises to pay Dawson the sum of $1500 in 1879. The promissory note is attached to the deed.
