Includes the following: register of patients from the 11th Missouri Infantry taken sick and wounded at Marion and Demopolis, Alabama, and at Memphis, Tennessee, 1865; tabular statement of the wounded at the Siege of Vicksburg and the attack on Jackson, Mississippi, in the hospital of the 3rd Division, 15th Army Corps, Army of the Tennessee; adjutant’s report of killed and wounded in the 11th Missouri Infantry at the Battle of Iuka, Mississippi; list of casualties in the Battle of Nashville, Tennessee; monthly statements of hospital supplies; orders and circulars from the Medical Director’s Office; and several pages from the journal of Thomas S. Hawley, surgeon of the 11th Missouri Infantry, which includes extensive descriptions of the wounds of James Chapman and Thomas Hall., 1862-1865

The Thomas S. Hawley Papers consist primarily of correspondence from Thomas Hawley to his parents and siblings in Olney, Illinois, during his Civil War service. The collection also includes several letters from Thomas' parents to their son, and a few letters between other members of the Hawley family. The correspondence documents Thomas Hawley's Civil War service, family affairs, and life in St. Louis after the war. The collection also includes a hospital record book of the 11th Missouri Infantry (Union), kept by Hawley, which contains various lists of patients and wounded men.
