Letter signed Flora Byrne, Byrnham Wood, to My dear Eliza [Mrs. Charles F. Mayer, Franklin Street, Baltimore, Maryland c/o S.J. Fletcher near Owning’s Mills, Baltimore, Maryland]. My silence has been caused by the illness of my dear husband. He was conscious all the time and arranged all his worldly affairs. James Smith drove us to Francisville yesterday and I visited Mrs. Dr. Alexander. Both children are well and Annie looks thin from growing so fast. James has difficulty pronouncing his S. Margaret is little use to me and Mrs. Hoffman will try to get a place for her in St. Louis. Hemp is our chief source of income. Individuals mentioned include Edmond, James Smith, Aunt Flora, Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Thomas, Annie, Jamie, Mrs. Hoffman, Margaret, Mr. Saunders, Beverly Tucker, and Mr. Mayer. (4 pages), [1844] Aug 7
