Biography
McDonnell Aircraft Corporation was an aerospace manufacturer based in St. Louis. The company was founded on July 6, 1939 by James Smith McDonnell. McDonnell was best known for producing military aircraft, and they became one of the leading producers of jet figheters. They also manufactured manned spacecraft, including the Mercury and Gemini capsules. In 1967, the company merged with Douglas Aircraft Company to form McDonnell Douglas.
