Includes papers relating to the Pioneer Aeroplane and Exhibition Company (1911); the St. Louis Aeronautic Corporation, formed to hold the international air races in St. Louis, October 1-2, 1923; ballooning; and the early history of Lambert St. Louis Flying Field.

Scope and Contents The August Kern Aviation Collection contains August Kern, Jr.’s reminisces about early aviation in St. Louis, as well as accompanying photographs showing pilots and planes. The collection includes 11 scrapbook pages and one photocopy of a scrapbook page, as well as the text of a “History of Aviation in St. Louis” presentation that Kern gave in 1968, probably to members of the OX5 Club; the draft of an essay or presentation regarding Kern’s personal experiences; and a 1959 letter to Joseph W....

Scope and Contents The papers contain manuals and publications relating to airplanes and spacecraft along with personal materials about McDonnell Aircraft Corporation test pilot and engineer, Gilbert B. (Bert) North. The papers are arranged alphabetically and date from 1941 to 2007. The bulk of the materials date from 1964 to 1978. North’s aviator logbook spans a large number of years.
