Timothy Cusick Poster Collection
Scope and Contents
The Timothy Cusick Poster Collection contains posters reflecting Cusick's interests, particularly related to LGBTQ+ community life and activism. The posters most frequently address AIDS issues and Pride events. Highlights include a Mary Engelbreit poster depicting an AIDS quilt and a Coors poster for the St. Louis AIDS Action Network from the early 1990s that is an early example of corporate sponsorship of an AIDS-related organization.
LGBTQ+ posters include the following topics/events: Gateway Men's Chorus performances; 1987 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights; St. Louis Celebration of Lesbian and Gay Pride/Pride Fest; AIDS candlelight memorials; AIDS fundraisers; AIDS hotline; NAMES project and the National AIDS Memorial; and Romanovsky and Phillips (gay cabaret duo).
Other posters include the following topics/events: support of NARAL; Women Take Back The Night; jazz group Jasmine; Hepatitis B awareness; Cusick's campaign to represent District 64 in the Missouri House of Representatives; and Martin Luther King Day symposium featuring a voter registration event.

Biographical / Historical
Timothy Cusick is a businessman and community leader in St. Louis. He was the first openly gay candidate to run for elected office in the St. Louis area, with unsuccessful campaigns in 1990 and 1992 to represent the 64th District in the Missouri House of Representatives. Cusick served as President of Pride St. Louis and worked on the Gay News Telegraph. He earned an associate degree in funeral directing and embalming from Forest Park Community College.
