Shane Cohn Photograph Collection
Scope and Contents
The Shane Cohn Photograph Collection contains six small posters from an Explore St. Louis ad campaign directed at LGBT tourists and six composite photographs showing members of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen from 2009-2021. The tourism ads promote general St. Louis amenities, including Busch Stadium and local restaurants, as well as LGBT-specific destinations, including clubs in the Grove, Central West End, and Soulard. The ads feature quotes from The Advocate calling St. Louis "one of the gayest cities in America" and "the LGBT beacon of the Midwest." Alderman Shane Cohn assisted with the ad campaign.

Alderman Shane Cohn (b. April 1982) was the city of St. Louis's first openly LGBTQIA+ municipal elected official. He was elected in 2009 and remains in office as of September 2021.

Custodial History
Tourism posters belonged to Alderman Shane Cohn, who assisted with the ad campaign. He intended to frame them for display in his office, before deciding to donate them to MHS.

Digital copies and item-level records of select images are posted as they are created and can be accessed through the Online Collections on the Missouri Historical Society website (mohistory.org/collections).
