Biographical / Historical

Big Crank Cycling was an LGBTQ-oriented bicycle club in the St. Louis area. The group was founded in 2006 by David Ridgeway, Jay Johnson, and Don Griffith. Claire Wyneken, who coordinated this donation, joined the group in 2007 and went on to play a leadership role. Big Crank Cycling disbanded in 2020, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Big Crank Cycling was intended to provide a fun, healthy space for queer folks to enjoy themselves. The group collaborated both with other LGBTQIA+ organizations (such as the St. Louis Frontrunners running club) and mainstream groups (such as Trailnet, a local organization that promotes bicycling). Big Crank Cycling also raised money for charities, and members marched as a group in the annual St. Louis Pride Parade.
