Betty Neeley Photograph Collection
Scope and Contents
The Betty Neeley Photograph Collection contains four photographs collected by Neeley and related to the lesbian community in St. Louis. One photograph shows Neeley exiting the Carter Carburetor factory near Grand Boulevard and St. Louis Avenue, where she worked. The photo was taken by Charlotte Mason, Neeley's girlfriend at the time. Two photographs show Laura Moore, the first openly LGBTQ person appointed to public office in the city of St. Louis, and her longtime partner and fellow social justice activist, Marlene Schuman. One photograph shows the christening ceremony of the child of an unidentified lesbian couple in the St. Louis area.
