Metropolitan Community Church of Greater St. Louis Print Collection
Scope and Contents
The Metropolitan Community Church of Greater St. Louis Print Collection contains one framed print declaring a "Hate Free Zone." The declaration was made by the member congregations of Holy Ground Collaborative. This print was displayed by the Metropolitan Community Church in the early years of the organization before it had its own building. During this period, the Church met in space shared with other organizations, and the sign was displayed to designate the location as a special area promoting respect and tolerance.

Biographical / Historical
The Metropolitan Community Church of Greater St. Louis is a local congregation of an international LGBTQIA+ oriented Christian fellowship. The St. Louis MCC was founded in 1973 and is one of the oldest continually operating LGBTQIA+ community organizations in the St. Louis area. In addition to serving as the spiritual home of many LGBTQIA+ St. Louisans, it has also been an important hub of community building, political organizing, and social services. As of 2022, the St. Louis MCC is based in a church space in the Carondelet neighborhood, but over the years has met at several locations elsewhere in the city.
