J. David Auner, M.D. (1952- ): Biographical Data, Interview Guide, Index, Note, Transcript (20 pp.). Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon appointed Dr. Auner to the initial Foundation board of directors in November 2000; he served until 2007. Auner was one of two family physicians appointed to the first board; he had a private practice in Ironton, Missouri. Brenda Ann Battle (1959- ): Biographical Information and Family History, Index, Transcript July 24 (DVD 1, 21 pp.), Transcript August 11 (DVD 2, 25pp.) . Battle was appointed to the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and later served as a board member for the Missouri Foundation for Health. She earned a nursing degree, a master’s degree in business, and was the director of Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s Center for Diversity and Cultural Competence. Battle discussed her experiences in health care, care disparities, service on the CAC and its committees, and transition to the Foundation and its impact in Missouri. Mary C. “Mikki” Brewster (1939-2018): Biographical Information and Family History, Resume, Index, Transcript (DVD 1, 22 pp.), Transcript (DVD 2, 12 pp.). Melvin F. Brown (1935-2020): Index, Transcript (25 pp.). Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon appointed Brown to the initial Missouri Foundation for Health board of directors in November 2000; he served until 2006. Brown was an attorney, served on the Board of Trustees for Washington University, and was a past president of the Gateway Chapter of the Leukemia Society. He was on the Foundation’s investment committee and the budget and finance committee. Brown discussed how the board set up the Foundation’s finances; feeling it became too bureaucratic; tensions between urban and rural interests; and the CAC/Foundation relationship. At the time of the interview, Cooper was the president of the Nonprofit Services Center (St. Louis), designed to make nonprofit organizations stronger, healthier, and more vibrant. She was the Foundation’s first vice president for programs in 2002. Cooper explained her educational and professional background, early work at the Foundation, the state of health nonprofits, how she left the Foundation in 2006 to work at the Nonprofit Services Center, and the relationship between the two agencies.
