Story of engagement of Emily Hamilton with a man named Ellison. During a church service in summer of 1817, the congregation was distracted by entry of beautiful Emily Hamilton with a handsome young man. After the service, “Mrs. Chatterton and Mrs. Dubious” discussed the homily and the young couple. Emily’s conduct led to conclusion that she was engaged. When Mrs. Chatterton reached her mansion, she found an invitation from Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton, presumably to a wedding. Mrs. Dubious thought the blue ribbon was not appropriate.
