Contract for first jail in St. Charles. Agreement between Francois Duquette of the Village of Saint Charles and Jonathan Woods, Robert Spencer, and James Flaherty, Justices of the Quarter Sessions of the Peace for the District of Saint Charles. Duquette lets and demises for a county jail the building, his property, formerly used as a windmill. The consideration is the annual sum of sixty dollars in peltry. Such use may continue as long as the Justices think advisable. If iron bars are installed, when the building is returned to him, Duquette may retain them at cost. Damage to the building to be paid by the District, normal wear and tear excepted., 1804
