Letter signed Jno. G. Shultz to Major Jno. Dougherty. I will continue to do all I can for Iatan but I must complain of your never-ceasing delay. The deeds in your hands are due the parties to whom they are made, and they repeatedly call for them. Col. Swords has complied promptly and returned the deed in a month after it was mailed to him 3,000 miles away. Our prospects are brightening here daily and if we can only hit the right track, we will get our money back. R.W. Thompson & Co., merchants of Iatan, have failed. We must get a sawmill here if we have to build it ourselves. I have strong belief that there will be three stores in Iatan by November 1st. Businesses mentioned: R.W. Thompson & Co. and Murphy Belt & Alexander. Places mentioned: Weston., 1853 May 19
