Each of our Citties [sic] is equally interested in running to Leavenworth as by this means she will be prevented from attempting her ‘Cut Off’ over to Bucklin or Cameron and we will jointly take the wind out of her sails, and make her, what she ought to be – a one-horse town. This of course must be kept private, as Leavenworth must help us to cut her own throat.
