Letter signed Ferd. B. Kennett, Jr., Mountain City, D.T., to Mother [Mrs. Julia Kennett]. We have reached rim rock on our claims and found gold which will pay $3 or $4 per day and the chances are greatly in favor of our finding $10 or $15 when we reach bed rock in the middle of the gulch. I will go to Deadwood next week and forward Sallie some money. I am greatly comforted to know you will take so much interest in my babies. Teach them to be gentlemen and women and get all the Boyce manner and characteristics out of them if possible. As soon as I can find some responsible party going to Cheyenne I will have Sallie’s goods shipped to Chadbourne to be forwarded to her at Selma., 1877 June 20
