Letter signed J. & J. Latty, Shibboleth, to Kennett. Regarding leasing New Diggins. We think it bad policy to lease any part of mineral lands to outside parties. The heirs have a furnace capable of smelting five times the amount of mineral raised on all the lands and should have the profit of smelting it. Have had to close Shibboleth and other mines adjacent to R. Road. The contrabands and low whites flocked into the diggins for tiff and mineral., 1864 Aug 18
