Letter signed Ann White, Selma, to daughter, Mrs. Julia Kennett, Shibboleth. Moses [White] will leave today for California if he can get a boat to stop for him. The Iowa passed up yesterday and when hailed to stop would not; said she was filled with cholera and dared not stop. The guard was covered with tarpaulin and the sick behind it. James will send the puppie out to White the first wagon that will take it and I will send the sofa. I have put in two little pots of wild forget-me-nots that you wanted. James will be out soon and I will come out before long. I feel old age creeping on me every day. I wish I lived near you where I could see you often. Tell Ferdinand [Kennett] I think Moses has plenty and do not wish him to have more. I had a letter from John two weeks ago. He had not settled himself when he wrote. (Donated by Leonard V. Huber (courtesy of Ruth Ferris) on March 31, 1965, acc. no. 65-0019.), [1849] Apr 14
