Rough draft, F. K[ennett], Headqrs. 1st Regt. St. Louis, Legion Missouri Vols., to Capt. H. Koch. Regarding ordering arrest of individuals in question. I never conceived for one moment that you would have been guilty of the officious interference with my duties of ordering out your own men to make arrests for an offense against military discipline which occurred immediately under my observation. I feel that in making this communication I am departing in some degree from military usageā€¦but with this note all correspondence on this subject will cease between us so far as I am concerned., 1846 July 30
