Letter signed J[ohn] P. S[ebree] to Col. [Elliott]. Mules are in demand in St. Louis. Pea and Harris have a contract for 2000, at $155, and I saw 6 Kentuckians there trying to buy. I believe mules will be $200 or very near that in the Spring. You see we let a fortune slip through our fingers last fall by not buying 1000 head., 1863 Dec 24
