Letter signed P. Wiles to Col. N.G. Elliott, Leavenworth City. It is pretty hard for me to come to any conclusion what is going to be done in the stock trade this spring. At present there seems to be a great deal of stir and stock about Pikes Peak. Quite a large number are going through this city. Some with outfits with them, a few buying their outfits here, but the most of them are going to fit out at the various points up the Missouri River. There is more stock bought in and about St. Louis for California than there is for the Pikes Peake trade. Availability of mules, costs, transportation. Individuals mentioned: Capt. McPike and Col. Mitchell. Places mentioned: Salt Lake., 1859 Mar 29
