Shares news of [Auguste] de la Chaise, a Jacobin, who is rumored to have a secret mission in Louisiana, stoking Carondelet’s fears of an invasion; all Frenchmen found without passports are to be set ashore “on the American side at Kaskaskia” or elsewhere so they can reach Vincennes; wrote to Tardiveau concerning funds; alludes to flooding of Delassus’ fort and home with instructions to rebuild and fortify temporarily until the Court ratifies plans for a post at the mouth of the Ohio River; “If you are attacked it will be best to reinforce the garrison of the post of Fort St. Ferdinand and you will take command.” English translations (3): 1 handwritten, 2 typescripts., 1796 Sept 18
