Informs Delassus that he has forwarded the package for his father [Pierre Delassus]; also finds his father neglectful of business contracts as there is a lead shortage and he must send balls for the magazines of the King; “Notwithstanding the pretended treaty concluded between Spain and the United States,” threats still exist to the ports; orders him to move his garrison to Ecore if it is attacked and to abandon New Madrid, not allowing artillery to fall into enemy hands, and he must take command of Fort Ferdinand; “You will not permit the introduction of merchandise into Louisiana from the United States which is not of Kentucky and other American establishments of the west”; orders not to allow American trade with the natives.
