Letter signed Isaac Chauncey Cable, New Orleans, to Wife [Mary Grapeveine Cable], [St. Louis?]. I am not entirely well, but I can stand at the wheel. It is raining and we can’t discharge our freight. I will bring you the “Southern Rights March.” It is very disagreeable in the city. I will remain on the boat nearly all the time. The Magnolia will not get away till Saturday. I saw Frank [Cayton]. Expresses family affection. William Lysle [pilot on the Warrior with me] is sick; lost his gold watch. I find I am not the only one of the pilots that is afflicted. Enoch King is near losing his sight. E.P. King is on Mollie Able, Pilot. Had chills and fever. Settled in his eyes. Individuals mentioned: Mr. and Mrs. McChesney, Frank [Cable], Jessie [Cable], and Youngblood family., 1865 Sept 12
