Ring and Matchbox from Pioneer Diamond Jubilee. The ring and matchbox were located in the Pioneers Collection in the Archives, in an envelope full of items from the club's 75th birthday party. Betty (Mrs. Edwin) Grossman, president of the Pioneers at the time of the party (May 26, 1954), is credited on the envelope as being the donor, although no confirmation of this was found in the Archives' accession books. Other items removed from the envelope include an invitation to the birthday party which is in the shape of a diamond ring, a program in the shape of a diamond, a speech by Betty Grossman delivered at the party, diamond-shaped place cards for "Betty" and "Ed" Grossman, and 12 color photographs taken at the party, which was held at the Congress Tower Hotel. The ring, apparently a favor for those who attended the party, is in a small box, wrapped in silver paper, tied with a baby blue satin bow. The matchbox, now empty, was also apparently a favor for party guests., 1954

Scope and Contents From the Collection: The Pioneers Collection consists mainly of the organization's minutes from its origin in 1879 to the present (1999), and yearbooks from 1949 to the present. There are a few notable gaps in the minutes, namely from 1930 to 1933, 1940 to 1949, and 1970 to 1977. The run of yearbooks, which outline the course of study for the year and often contain lists of members, is more complete, although there are a few missing. The collection also contains some printed constitutions and by-laws, a number...

Pill Bottle Invitation. The pill bottle, containing a sugar cube, bears a label with "directions" that read: "To be taken once only at 5 Roan Lane at noon on May 22. Let us know if you can't R.X." Dr. Mary Prank is the prescribing "physician." The pill bottle was apparently an invitation to a tea or luncheon at the home of one of the Pioneer members., No date
