Letter signed R.A. Forsyth, Washington City, to uncle, Major Thomas Forsyth, St. Louis. The Senate rejected the nomination of S.C. Stambaugh, who was nominated Indian Agent at Green Bay in the place of Breevort. The President had reappointed him and he left this morning with the Menominies for Pennsylvania. I could not get a sight of the letter you spoke of. Mr. Hamilton, who has never seen it, told me if such a letter had been written the Secy. of War has it, and he is of the opinion he would not let me see or copy it. Col. Dougherty’s brother was here and he thinks the Colonel will not be removed., 1831 Mar 16

Letter signed James Kinzie, Chicago, to uncle, Thomas Forsyth, St. Louis, Missouri. Introducing my friend Col. R.J. Hamilton. Your old friend, B. Caldwell, is sorry the Indians only made a provision for you of $500 in their last treaty, when you should have had fifteen. There is, it appears, an appropriation of $10,000 for another treaty with our boys and I think you would do well to attend in person. Caldwell & Robinson will likely be there. Tell Mr. McGill I have not sold all his goods. I presume you have heard Congress has appropriated $25,000 to construct a harbor in Chicago., 1833 Apr 5
