Letter signed G.H. Kennerly, Head of the Des Moines Rapids, to Forsyth, Rock Island. Last night I put up a package of letters for you (one for you from Genl. Clark), and will send the Indian on a mule belonging to the U.S. Mr. Benton, who brought the letters to this place, says his instructions are to leave the mule with someone of the agents. You keep the mule and hire a man to go on with the package to the commissioners, who will pay him for the trip. Give the Indian a blanket, a breech cloth, a black silk handkerchief and a looking glass. I will return them to you., 1829 July 11
