Letter signed Pere Lafitte[?] (Count D'Asselin), Agen, to nephew [Michael Tesson]. Acknowledges his letter received from Paris. Surprised that a former letter did not reach him. There is no reason why it should have been suppressed as it contained nothing of politics or religion. Long silence caused him uneasiness and he wondered if Tesson had gone back to Missouri. Is very much disturbed that Tesson's elder brother, Francis, fell ill at Aix-la-Chapelle and did not inform him. (in French, 3 pages; two copies of typescript translation, each 1 page), 1828 Dec 17

Letter signed Pere Lafitte[?] (Count d'Asselin), Agen, to [Madame] Baroussel Tesson. God has favored him, enabling him to embrace his dear nephew since he could not meet his brothers. Before meeting nephew, had his doubts about introducing him into French society. Began to change his mind on receipt of nephew’s letter four years ago. Did not recognize him at first when Tesson (the nephew) presented himself correctly dressed. Now feels Tesson is an honor to the family. Plans to return to France in ten years with thirty thousand dollars. Sends her gold case and begs that she prosper in order that she and Tesson may return to France. Letter signed John Tipton, Indian agent, near Logansport, Ind., to Thos. Forsyth [Thomas Forsyth], Fort Armstrong. I perceive from your note in the hands of Kee-o-kuck [Keokuk], a Sauk chief from your agency, that there was some misunderstanding of the message sent by Mee-ta-wa, a Potawatomi chief. Mention of troubles likely to take place between the Sauks and Potawatomis. I was not authorized to hold a treaty or council. Twenty fine looking Indians came here with Kee-o-Kuck and stayed two days. Kee-o-Kuck stated some white men are now settling on land owned by his people and I promised to mention it to you., 1829 June 26
