Petition of Antoine Soulard concerning land. Concerning 10,000 arpens granted Soulard, at his request, by Lt. Gov. Zeno Trudeau in 1796, and surveyed by Deputy Surveyor Santiago Rankin in 1804. Land is vacant part of public land 15 miles west of the Mississippi River, 70 miles north of the town of St. Louis in the county aforesaid on a branch of the Cuivre River. Sometime after the survey, certificate and entry, and before the time when claims should have been filed pursuant to the law of Congress of 3-2-1805, Soulard’s papers to the land were thrown into the fire and destroyed. Between this date and 2-27-1818, when Soulard filed petition to the Congress of the U.S. stating above case, the United States sold part of the land [1,947 acres] to others. [Named] Soulard then petitions that the residue of the 10,000 arpens be withheld from public sale until a final decision is made on his claim by the proper tribunal. Individuals mentioned include Antoine Soulard, Don Santiago Rankin, Lt. Gov. Zeno [Zenon] Trudeau, John McCoy, Meredith Cox, Hugh Barnett, Nicholas Wells, Quinton Moore, James Lewis, J.
