Letter signed Willis L. Williams, St. Louis, to Dear Lewis. I received you $400, put it in the safe and the next day I was seized with cholera that confined me for several weeks, during which time I forgot about the money. Then came out great fire and my office being among the first houses burnt, it destroyed not only oevery one of my most valuable books and all my papers, but that and $250 mor along with it, in the sage which had proved insecure against the fire. The cholera has been an epidemic here for about 50 days and is now most awful in its ravages. Dr. Barbour died a few days ago of cholera. Several other physicians died also, but not of your acquaintance. Dr. McPheeters married again about a month since to a Miss Buchanan. (2 pages), 1849 June 23
