Letter signed Robert Holmes, Jefferson City, to H.R. Gamble. Your favor of February 15th is received with charter for savings institution, which I will do the best I can to have it passed. I will offer it at some evening session this week. Discussion of your city university charter; election of United States Senator; public printer; the interest question; constitutional amendment regarding banks; railroads. I think the Whigs will support Mr. Switzler, he is OK on all subjects. I have a poor opinion of Mr. Treadway on any question. We have found the Benton men most liberal. Your old friend Captain Carson of Marion County often speaks of you. Individuals mentioned include Whigs, Switzler, Benton men and Captain Carson. Places mentioned include Marion County and St. Louis. (4 pages), 1853 Feb 19
