Every kind of people can be found here and I have to play the chameleon. I have sent an agent to St. Charles County. This is poor country, contains about 3000 inhabitants. The best part of this state is up the Missouri River from one to two hundred miles. I hope to leave for warmer country by Christmas, will go to Texas next spring. I have travelled 75 miles through this country and find it is not thickly settled. There a great many French and Germans are 1/3 in St. Louis. The country is much better up the Missouri River. I have sent an agent to Sangamon County, Illinois. His name is Bassford. I should like to go South. This is a poor country for books, they do not pay much attention to education or reading. Williams has 2 or 3 agents out, advertises for more. He has gone over to Alton, Illinois for subscriptions. Direct your order to me to Tabor, Shaw & Tatum.
