Letter signed Warren Stewart, St. Louis, to Sidney Smith, Louisville, Kentucky. Arrived here Tuesday night and have been learning the crooks and turns of the city since I intend to commence soliciting subscribers on Monday next. Mr. Williams stepped into my boarding house yesterday, with a contract for the same work as I will do. How did you make such a mistake as to have us both sell the same works? There are other booksellers here, and others obtaining subscribers to other work [to wit] “History of the Church,” etc. I expect to go to Palmyra in about a week. I can sell the Protestant better. People are a good eal excited about the Catholic question. I presented a Catholic lady a book with the Protestant prospectus pasted inside. She returned it lively. I intend to seal that up when I present it to a Catholic after this. Individuals mentioned include Mr. Williams. (3 pages), 1835 Sept 26
