Letter signed Fayette Gray Bynum, to Hamilton R. Gamble, Secretary of State, St. Charles. I hope you will discard the dictatorial felling of a superior office of Government while you converse [on paper] with one of your old friends of Boonslick. The fever has abated entirely since the election of Governor and we do not expect such another storm shortly. Boggs has been provided for, and I expect that Ryland will be tickled with the straw you intend to abandon. By curtailing expenses and farming on a small scale I have been able to hold up. I interfere not at all with politics and, although I voted for Judge Todd as an act of gratitude, I did not feel that degree of solicitude about the event of the election as to induce me to ask one person to vote as I did. I have not had time to make the record you wish before the General’s departure as he starts this morning. Individuals mentioned include [Lilburn] Boggs, [John F.?] Ryland, Judge [David?] Todd and General. Places mentioned include Boonslick., 1826 Mar 9
